Thyroid awareness

Your thyroid is a small gland, shaped like a butterfly, in the neck right below where an Adam's apple is located. It produces hormones that are important for the heart, brain, skin, and liver. It is a very important gland in regulating functions of the body.

Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction include: fatigue, insomnia, changes in memory, inability to concentrate, fast heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, changes in weight, depression and anxiety, changes in your menstrual cycle, joint and/or muscle pain, changes in vision.

Common thyroid disorders include hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroid nodules, Grave's disease, and thyroid cancer. Woman are 5x more likely to suffer from thyroid disease.  You are also at high risk if you have a family history of thyroid disease, type 1 diabetes, history of radiation or treatment to the neck area, and recent pregnancy.

Untreated thyroid disorder can lead to other illness and disease including osteoporosis, weight loss, weight gain, heart disease, and infertility to name a few.

We can help get you screened and get you treated if you do have thyroid disease. It starts with an exam of your thyroid gland and is followed by simple blood testing to check how your thyroid is working. Call us today to get scheduled!
